Local / October 26, 2016

Here at LYR, we have so many crushes on local women who’ve made their mark on the SWFL community. That’s why LYR members Neece McCoy and Kyle Anne Duggan started “Woman Crush Wednesdays!” Each month, Kyle and Neece will interview a different woman who inspires us to be strong, fierce, and fearless. Viewers can get to know Kyle and Neece, and find out about all the most bad ass babes who work, live, and play in SWFL. In episode 4, Kyle & Neece interview District 7 Cape Coral City Council Member, Jessica Cosden,  and 2016 Democratic Nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida’s Congressional District 7, April Freeman. Woman Crush Wednesdays, E4 starts with an interview with Jessica Cosden, Cape Coral City Council Member from District 7. Jessica Cosden has lived in Cape Coral all her life. Her family owned Penguin Pools, a landmark in south Cape Coral, for nearly 25 years. She attended the Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts (with a concentration in Middle Eastern Studies) in 2006. After graduation, Jessica went to Gwangju, South Korea for 3 months to teach English to young children. She then wrote for the Cape Coral Daily Breeze and the Naples Daily News before settling into a career in database marketing. Jessica has been politically active in Cape Coral for several years. In 2011, she co-organized a large rally in support of public safety outside Cape Coral City Hall.

Then, Kyle Anne & Neece of Woman Crush Wednesdays interview April Freeman, the 2016 Democratic Nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives from District 7. April Freeman is working to return dignity and common sense to Washington by running for Congress in Florida’s 17th congressional district. The district spans nine Florida counties including Charlotte, Desoto, Glades, Hardee, Highlands, Okeechobee, and parts of Lee, Polk, and Sarasota counties. From a young age, April has felt compelled to live her life serving her community. Through, her Aunt and Great-Grandfather, April witnessed the positive effects caring elected officials have on a community. April, also learned the value of hard-work and determination growing up the oldest daughter in a working family. April recognizes what most voters do, it’s time for a change in Congress. This is especially true in the newly drawn 17th district, where we have an extremist who is failing our country.  We need a Representative who has the guts to stand up for this country and who will work with our new President. April will be that strong new voice for a new district. In Congress, April will defend our district, our seniors, our children, our veterans and our environment by pursuing policies that make sense and work. April will work across the aisle and with local government to ensure Floridians benefit from policies that will impact them positively.
