What is a zine?
A zine is a do-it-yourself magazine or book that showcases art and/or writing. They range in size, content, and subject matter, but they all have one thing in common: they’re a direct method of self-publication. Zines have been around since the 1960s, but were highly popularized in the 1990s punk and hardcore music scene. Today, zines are seeing a resurgence among artists and writers who are tired of mass market publishing.
